Legal Framework for IWRM 29 June – 01 July, EI Salvador

The training workshop on legal Framework for IWRM was held from 29 June to 1 July in El Salvador. This training provided the knowledge on history and evolution of water regulation with ancient rules, to irrigation, navigation and aqueducts. It also presented implementation of integrated water resources management considering both green and blue water. The workshop was organized by REDICA and Association of Lawyers for Justice and Rights (AJUD) and JR Duarte S.A. in El Salvador.

Groundwater Management into River Basin Organization, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on July 20, 2016

The course will be implement by Africa Groundwater Network (AGW-Net), in collaboration with GRIPP and BGR.

The content will be adapted from the training manual on groundwater management developed together with Cap-Net and partners. Taking advantage of the gathering of experts at Africa Water Week, the course will be a one-day event with sessions and interactive discussion.

External Review of Sida’s support to UNDP Water and Ocean Governance Programme – Call for Proposals

The Water and Ocean Governance Programme (WOGP) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sustainable Development Profession, in its Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), assists countries to improve water and ocean governance, build capacities, and mainstream effective water and ocean resources management, and water supply and sanitation policy at local, national, regional and global levels. Among other mechanisms, the programme delivers through the UNDP Water Governance Facility (WGF) at SIWI, GoAL WaSH, and the global network for capacity development towards sustainable water management Cap-Net.

Workshop on Rainwater harvesting to cope with the Impact of Climate Change 15-16th June 2016 Sri Lanka

Rainwater is cleaner than the groundwater at its present context and it is important to educate the community on the importance of rainwater harvesting and ways to cleanly collect and store it. Cap-Net Lanka of the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya, Lanka Rain water Harvesting Forum of the Ministry of Environment, The Open University of Sri Lanka jointly organize the training workshop on rainwater harvesting to cope with the impact of climate change and will be held in Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Forum, Pelawatta. This workshop will mainly focus on climate change impacts on water resources and the importance of rainwater harvesting in rural and urban areas. The workshop will enable trainees to disseminate the knowledge they gained to the communities and to use as a drought preparedness tool.

Peri-Urban Water Conflicts: Perspectives & Issues of Water Justice in South Asia

SaciWATERs in partnership with SOPPECOM, Forum for Policy Dialogue on Water Conflicts in India, UNDP Cap-Net and SCaN organized the workshop from 23 May to 25 May 2016 in Hyderabad. There were a total of 54 participants. SAWAS 2nd Regional Review Workshop was held on May 23rd with the purpose to provide feedback on the research work done by the students for publication. The feedback and suggestions revolved around the essentiality of having a conceptual apparatus in interdisciplinary research, and ways to link the data collected in the field with social sciences.

WaterNet in collaboration with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature will host the above named training on Promoting the application of environmental water requirements in the management of transboundary river basins in Southern Africa, 20 – 23 June, Cape Town, South Africa for the Resilience in the Limpopo Basin Programme (RESILIM). The major objective of the training is to provide policy makers with information and understanding of the principles that underlie good practice in the determination of Environmental Flows in transboundary water governance.

Regional Training in International Water Law (IWL) for Transboundary Improved Water Management in Management

WaterNet will participate in the joint training on International Water Law (IWL) in Africa to being speared by the Global Water Partnership. The training will take place in Kampala, Uganda, 5-12 June 2016. It will be attended by 40 participants of which 5 will be funded by WaterNet. The aim of the training is to improve transboundary water management in Africa. The other partners behind the training, apart from GWP, are the University of Dundee (UK), Makerere University (Uganda), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Network for Basin Organizations (ANBO).

Africa-EU Innovation Alliance for Water and Climate, “AfriAlliance” H2020, Project

WaterNet is part of a consortium of 16 organizations from Africa and Europe implementing the Africa-EU Innovation Alliance for Water and Climate, “AfriAlliance” Project, commonly referred to as the H2020 Project which is being funded by the European Commission. The major objective of the project is for: African and European stakeholders to work together in the areas of water innovation, research, policy, and capacity development in order to increase the preparedness of Africa for future Climate Change vulnerabilities.

WaterNet held a 4 day Training Course on Developing Online/E-learning Courses Material at St George Hotel and Conference Centre, Pretoria, South Africa held from 26 – 29 April 2016. The main objective of the course was to effectively prepare WaterNet member institutions and partners to offer short professional courses through online and distance learning in order to further capacitate current and future water professionals in Eastern and Southern African countries and beyond in the management of freshwater resources.
