Regional Seminar on Advanced Training of the ‘Safety of the hydro-technical constructions for water specialists of Kazakhstan’ – 7 to 9 September 2017, Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The Regional Seminar on Advanced Training of the “Safety of the hydro-technical constructions for water specialists of Kazakhstan” took place from 7 to 9 September 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This seminar was conducted with the cooperation of IFAS, Kazakh National Agrarian University and other donors dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) and the preparation for the 8th World Water Forum (March 2018, Brazil).

The main of the objective of seminar was to organise capacity building and promotion awareness raising among stakeholder of water conservation and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM); melioration and irrigated agriculture; agricultural water supply and watering of pastures, use of renewable energy sources; agri-ecology and environmental protection in water management facilities, the safety of the Hydropower Station and prevention of emergencies in the context of the climate change. Training of Trainers (ToT) on River Pollution – 8th to 9th November 2017, Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysian Capacity Development Network for Sustainable Water Management (MyCDNet) will be hosting the Training of Trainers (ToT) on River Pollution on the 8th and 9th of November 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This training course is part of a collaborative programme between Cap-Net UNDP, Malaysian Capacity Development Network for Sustainable Water Management (MyCDNet) and Global Environment Centre (GEC) with support from GAB Foundation’s WATER Project to capacity build water professionals, capacity builders, local authorities’ and others to effectively communicate information in the context of sustainable river pollution management. Regional Workshop on Water Associated Conflict Resolution – 1 to 3 June, 2015, Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala.

A regional workshop on ‘Water Associated Conflict Resolution’ that took place in the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala campus from 1 to 3 of June 2015. A total of 30 participants from Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador and Panama took part in this workshop. The training course covered IWRM principles, theory of conflicts and characteristics of the different types of conflicts, social and historical analysis of the context of our region in regards to water and possible interventions to resolve conflicts. A regional course on ‘Human Rights Based Approaches (HRBA) for Water’ took place from 15 to 18 of June 2015 in Montevideo, Uruguay. This course followed the global ToT, which took place in Costa Rica in the year 2014, and initiated an active collaboration between LA-WETnet, Cap-Net UNDP and the Spanish Cooperation in Latin America, Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). The ‘Education and capacity building for sustainable water management’ was conducted by CAR@WAN on 9 of June, 2015 under the auspice of UNESCO Cluster Office within the framework of the High Level International Conference on the implementation of the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Life’, 2005-2015. This session was a side event in conjunction with ‘High Level International Conference on Water resources’ and was participated by approximately 50 representatives of governments universities, research institutions, public and international organisations.

Water integrity for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region – 9 to 10 May, 2015, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Following a successful first training in January 2015, the second regional training course on ‘Water integrity for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’ was held from 9 to 10 May 2015 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The training course took place back to back with the IUCN-ROWA regional conference RKNOW “Water and Nature Conservation – Knowledge Sharing in MENA Region”. More than 20 participants learned about the context and relevance of integrity in the management of water; methods to improve transparency, accountability and participation for better water governance and more sustainable water management.
