Associated Programme on Flood Management
The Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM) is a joint initiative of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Global Water Partnership (GWP). The mission of the APFM is to support countries in the integrated management of floods within the overall framework of integrated water resources management.


Body of Knowledge on Infrastructure Regulation (BoKIR)
The new and improved BoKIR summarizes and links to some of the best thinking on utility policy. This site provides summaries of and links to more than 500 references, a 90+ page glossary, self-testing features to facilitate learning, and a new section of Frequently Asked Questions dealing with Regulatory Challenges.


CAPACITY 2015
Capacity 2015 assists countries in meeting the sustainable development challenges of the 21st century and the Millenium Development Goals. Capacity 2015 programmes support the development of integrated, participatory and decentralized strategies for sustainable development.

GEMS/Water Programme
GEMS/Water develops and maintains a global freshwater quality information system with a series of national and international partners. In cooperation with donor countries, national institutions and international organizations, GEMS/Water supports a framework for capacity building in water quality monitoring and management.


GIWA Global International Water Assessment
GIWA is a water programme led by the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP. The aim of GIWA is to produce a comprehensive and integrated global assessment of international waters, the ecological status of and the causes of environmental problems in 66 water areas in the world, and focus on the key issues and problems facing the aquatic environment in transboundary waters.


International Foundation for Science
IFS is an NGO providing support to developing country scientists to conduct, in a developing country, relevant and high quality research on the management, use, and conservation of biological resources and their environment. IFS believes that the interests of both science and development are best served by promoting and nurturing the research efforts of young science graduates, who are at the beginning of their research careers.


The International Water Law Project
The International Water Law Project website provides pertinent information on international water law and policy and related topics. Specifically, it offers treaties, articles, news stories, case law, Internet links, and other relevant information. Many of the materials, such as treaties and articles, are offered in full text.

Effective water resources management and development are central to sustainable growth and poverty reduction and thus to the mission of the World Bank.


UNDP Capacity Development Programme
Capacity development entails the creation, utilization and retention of capacity in order to reduce poverty, enhance self-reliance and improve people's lives.

 


UNDP Dryland Development Centre
The Drylands Development Centre (DDC) is a centre of excellence dedicated to working with people to fight poverty in the drylands of the world. The Centre helps to influence policies and bring about lasting changes. The Centre recognizes that about one billion people depend directly upon the natural resources of the drylands for their livelihoods, and that many of them are poor and marginalized.


UNDP Water Programme
Water plays a pivotal role for sustainable development, including poverty reduction.
Water crises can be directly linked to issues of governance.
UNDP's water strategy is directed by a commitment to assist countries to meet the Millennium Development Goals, with an emphasis on poverty reduction and reduced child mortality.


UNESCO Water Portal
The UNESCO Water Portal is intended to enhance access to information related to freshwater available on the World Wide Web.
The site provides links to the current UNESCO and UNESCO-led programmes on freshwater and will serve as an interactive point for sharing, browsing and searching websites of water-related organizations, government bodies and NGOs, including a range of categories such as water links, water events, learning modules and other on-line resources. UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction
The ISDR aims at building disaster resilient communities by promoting increased awareness of the importance of disaster reduction as an integral component of sustainable development, with the goal of reducing human, social, economic and environmental losses due to natural hazards and related technological and environmental disasters.


Water Media Network
This initiative is a program of the World Water Council to promote dialogue among journalists and promote coverage of water issues. It is designed to help journalists examine the social, environmental, regulatory and financial issues relating to water. The program features workshops, field visits, distance learning courses and more.


 

WHO Water, Sanitation and Health site
This site has information on the different types of activities of WHO on water sanitation and hygiene: policy , research, partnerships, databases and statistics, guidelines and regulatory elements, training materials and good practice and tools for disease reduction. WSH information products are published in full text on the internet as soon as they become available.


World Water Assessment Programme
This UN-wide programme seeks to develop the tools and skills needed to achieve a better understanding of those basic processes, management practices and policies that will help improve the supply and quality of global freshwater resources.
