Objectives:
Objectives of CapNet India
- To facilitate in initialising local capacity building activities and later emerge as a platform for mediating capacity building (CB) for IWRM in India.
- To identify and establish linkages between relevant capacity building institutions in India to undertake training, education and research to promote CB for IWRM.
- To evolve an advocacy strategy for the promotion of CB for IWRM and other topical issues in water, of national and local relevance.
- Empowerment and regular partnerships in resource management at the local, national and regional levels through networking, and making an effective impact on policy making, implementation and evaluation in all water related knowledge and development activities.
Outputs:
The launch meeting of CapNet India identified certain immediate activities as follows:
- Develop membership (individual and institutional) of CapNet India, with specific attention to building upon local capacities that already exist in different states of the country.
- Establish a set of key Networking practices/guidelines with a view to encouraging open information flows and the credibility of the network among the members and different stakeholders.
- Prepare an inventory of actors and organizations directly or indirectly addressing or impacting upon the water sector in India. (The Network will bring its existing expertise, lists of inventories available and accessible; suggest modifications and additions as it moves along).
- Organise at least two meetings this year, of the Core Group, Advisory Board and some members (depending on the need and the availability of resources) to decide and assess our networking processes and also decide on priority areas that CapNet India will work on during the next three years.
- Classify the inventory of actors/organizations by areas of concern/objectives identified by CapNet India, based on the recognized capacities vested with each of the actors, and authorize/delegate responsibility to each Core Group member/ Member of CapNet India to carry out these activities on behalf of CapNet India.
- Network with other water networks in the country and other South Asian countries and plan joint activities.
