The GEF International Waters Learning Exchange and Resource Network

Objectives:

  1. To build a global knowledge community to sustain Earth's transboundary water resources and aquatic ecosystems through:
    - training and distance education
    - development of supporting information and communications technology(ICT) infrastructure at global, regional, and transboundary water basin scales.

  2. To expand knowledge sharing within and among transboundary waters projects in order to increase their cost efficiency and their effectiveness in achieving their respective development objectives.

Outputs:

  1. A trained team of country-based professionals with the skills, equipment, and any external support necessary to facilitate distance learning and knowledge sharing activities within and among their respective International Waters project regions.
  2. High-quality, accessible learning products, derived from the needs and experiences of participating International Waters projects and associated national and regional stakeholders. These products will draw upon the lessons learned by the projects themselves, from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), from the three GEF Implementing Agencies (UNDP, UNEP and World Bank), and their partners.
  3. A globally accessible Web Space for the International Waters knowledge community (see http://www.iwlearn.net).
  4. Testing and articulation of future-oriented methodologies for building Web-based IW knowledge communities at transboundary, regional and global scales.
