The First Water Integrity Training Course for MENA (Middle East and North Africa) took place from 14 to 15 of January 2015 in Dead Sea, Jordan. A total of thirty participants spanning from Oman to Morocco successfully participated in this training course in conjunction with the 3rd Arab Water Week. The participants learned about methods to improve transparency, accountability and participation in the water sector for more sustainable water management.
The 2015 UN-Water Annual Zaragoza Conferences with the theme ‘Water and Sustainable Development: From Vision to Action’ will take place from 15 to 17 January 2015 at Etopia Centro de Arte y Tecnología, Zaragoza, Spain. The GWP/UN-Water Campaign Training took place from 1 to 5 of December in Pretoria. This annual communication workshop was conducted in cooperation with UN-Water as part of GWP’s commitment to campaign for water as a dedicated goal on the post-2015 development agenda. The objective of this workshop was ‘to develop a global campaign to keep Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No.6’ which is ‘Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all’. A total of 19 participants from GWP and 8 campaign partners participated in this workshop. Cap-Net’s Capacity Building Analyst, Ms. Yasmina Rais El Fenni attended this workshop as one of the invited campaign partners. A Training Course on Water Integrity for MENA Region as part of the WI MENA programme will take place concurrently at the 3rd Arab Water Week at the Dead Sea, Jordan from 14 to 15 of January 2015.
The overall objective of the regional Water Integrity Training is to develop capacities of various water sector stakeholders for water integrity in the MENA region, thereby improving transparency and accountability practices in water resources management. This training in particular aims at reaching out the wider MENA region, beyond the five pilot countries and the specific target groups of the WI MENA programme.

The 11th Gulf Water Conference (GWC) organised by The Water Sciences and Technology Association (WSTA) of Oman took place between 20 and 22 of October 2014 in Muscat with the theme “Water in the GCC… Towards Efficient Management”. AWARENET, the Arab Integrated Water Resources Management Network, a Cap-Net Regional Network for Capacity Development in Sustainable Water Management hosted by UN ESCWA, jointly with the Oman Water Society (OWS), the Water Science and Technology Association (WSTA), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA) and Cap-Net UNDP held the first Training Course on “Water Footprint Awareness Raising for GCC and Arab Countries” on 19 October 2014 in Muscat, Oman. This course was organised as a pre event programme for the Water Sciences and Technology Association (WSTA) 11th Gulf Water Conference (GWC).
The Annual Cap-Net Network Managers and Partners Meeting will take place from 10 to 14 November 2014 at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Hosted by WaterNet, this year’s theme is “Sustainable Networks, Financing, Activities and Managing Risks. Invited network managers and international partners will gather again in this 5 day meeting to discuss on matters about “Effective partnerships and sustainable financing for capacity development in sustainable water management”. They will also be exchanging experiences and lessons learned in 2014 as well as updating on the “Sustainable Development Goals” and post 2015 agenda as well as implications for Cap-Net UNDP.
