Course Objectives
At the conclusion of the course,
• Practitioners will improve their knowledge on river basin management and be able to apply the knowledge directly to their institutions
• Trainers will have more knowledge on how to deliver training and develop capacity of RBOs
• Peer to peer exchanges of problems and solutions will enhance knowledge and enhance skills of participants
• Enhance the skills of RBOs to develop and use indicators to monitor their performance on a various functions
Expected Outcomes
The expected outcome is that RBO staff will improve their work performance and that of their organisations by translating knowledge learnt to practice. In addition, a practical set of simple indicators will be tested, further developed and applied to implement IWRM at basin level.
Target Group
The course is aimed at participants from Lusophone speaking countries specifically targeting River Basin managers, senior personnel from the Ministries of Water, Environmental affairs and managers of water infrastructure.
Methods
Training will include lectures, case studies, discussions, the River Basin Game and an excursion. The classroom days will be composed of 1 - 1.5 hour lectures followed by an equal time of group discussions and presentations of case studies from participants. Case studies will also serve as entry points for discussions, particularly drawing out participant’s experiences in the implementation of economic and/or financial instruments.
Venue and Organisation
The course will be organised by Gorongosa National Park Scientific Services and will be held in Beira, Mozambique.
