Course Objective
The overall objective of the training course is to improve awareness and skills among water professionals working
in the region on the value and application of financial and economic instruments in the provision of water.

Expected outcome
The expected outcome is that water managers are able to manage water effectively, recover costs, where
appropriate, and administer charges and subsidies effectively with a view to finance water investments and
promote economic growth and social development, through increased access to and efficient use of water.

Target group
The course is aimed at Water supply authorities, River basin organisations, Water utilities and Civil society.
Participants with capacity building responsibilities are encouraged to apply in order to ensure replication and
scaling-up of programmes and impacts.

Methods
The workshop will focus on participants sharing their own experiences, and be guided by the introduction of
new conceptual approaches and tools. There will be a combination of short lectures, practical exercises, group
work and discussion.
