Examples Several short courses for policy and decision makers, managers and water and sanitation professionals, with an emphasis on community based issues and local ownership. NETWAS International has implemented one major Participatory Action Research (PAR) project entitled the “Role of Communities in the Management of Improved Rural Water Supplies”. This project commenced in 1994 and was completed in 1998. A second project known as “PAR Dissemination” commenced in August 1998 and ended in December 2001. A course on Community Management that is a direct contribution from the lessons learnt during the implementation of this research project was held for the first time in 2000 and is now held annually. NETWAS International is also carrying out a water quality research as part of an African regional project. This research project is funded by the European Union. The objective of the research is to study the factors that influenced changes in hygiene behavior in a community in Western Kenya.
