Examples UNESCO International Hydrological Programme for Latin America and the Carribean: it is the water oriented Programme of the United Nations, responding to the growing concern on water resources and the need for education, training, knowledge transfer, and awareness raising in all levels. Activities include: assessment, management and water resource conservation; support to scientific and technological research in specific areas; specialists' training; invigoration of research centres in hydraulics and hydrology; support to publications and dissemination of scientific and technical documents, as well as making public the main issues in hydrology and water resources; and country attendance in the formulation, preparation and negotiation of extra-budgetary projects. The central office of the Programme is in Uruguay, and the Programme works together with diverse counterparts in the other countries of the Region.
