Objectives:

1. Increase access to education, training and research in IWRM
2. Enhance co-ordination among capacity building institutions
3. Facilitate efforts of network members to strengthen their capabilities in delivering capacity building services
4. Stimulate interaction among water professionals

Outputs:

CapNet Lanka was launched by the President of Lanka Jalani (Sri Lanka National Water Partnership) at a meeting held on 4th October 2003 at the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya in the presence of 75 participants, who represented various sectors dealing with water.
A core member group was formed to work towards achieving the objectives of CapNet-Lanka. This core group represents the main capacity building institutions responsible for producing water professionals in Sri Lanka and meets to discuss progress and planned activities.
The number of members increased from 9 to 30. All these members are professionals presently working in the water sector. This includes 18 local participants who participated for the Regional TOT in IWRM. The intention of CapNet-Lanka is not to increase the membership unless they are committed to strengthen the network, share benefits in addition to work towards to realise the objectives set out for the CapNet-Lanka.
In 2004 the main task was to organize the Regional TOT in IWRM at the Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture from 7-14th November 2004. This regional training was sucessfully accomplished and the final report was sent to CAPNET.
Furthermore the activities in relation to the assessment of training requirement of IWRM in Sri Lanka were initiated.
