1. Graduate and postgraduate
training: Since 1960, the Civil Engineering curriculum has offered
specialized training in Hydraulics. With the new Curriculum implemented
in 1998, students can obtain the degree of Civil Engineer -Hydraulics
Orientation. The Master's Degree Program in Engineering Sciences offers
a Hydrogeotechnical Orientation, with Master theses being prepared on
soil water flow and fluvial sedimentology .
2. Research Project: "Urban Hydrology in the Plata Basin". This
project, implemented in 1999, is included in the International
Cooperation Program CAPES (Brazil) -SETCIP (Argentina) and involves the
participation of the Instituto de Pesquisas Hidráulicas (IPH) of the
UFGRS (Porto Alegre) and the Department of Hydraulics of the School of
Engineering of the National University of the Northeastern Region. It
conducts applied research activities on water management in urban
areas.
3. Research Project: "Urban Hydrology in Flatland Areas". It is part of
the Program of Incentives for Professors and Researchers funded by the
General Secretariat of Science and Technology of the National
University of the Northeastern Region [National University of the
Northeastern Region and the School of Engineering in April 2001.
Objectives: To advance knowledge of urban hydrological processes; to
improve the rate of exchange of human resources between the IPH (UFRGS-
Porto Alegre, Brazil) and the Department of Hydraulics (School of
Engineering, National University of the Northeastern Region,
Resistencia, Argentina); to apply knowledge and experience in joint
extension studies and services.
4. Memorandum of Understanding and Reciprocal Collaboration between the
Binational Commission for the Development of the Upper Basin of the
Bermejo River and the Grande River at Tarija and the National
University of the Northeastern Region as part of the Strategic Action
Plan for the Bermejo River Binational Basin (PEA), signed in
Resistencia (Chaco) on September 12, 2002. The agreement provides for
the implementation of additional protocols for specific studies, such
as "Zoning of Water-Risk Areas in the Lower Basin" -the University's
School of Engineering as Executing Agency.
