Training on Network Development and Management, Indonesia
The regional network AguaJaring and the Indonesian network CK-Net, together with IHE Indonesia will implement a regional training course on managhement and development of capacity building networks. The course will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 25 - 29 August 2008.
National networks are instrumental to contribute to the development of multi-years/medium term capacity building programs in the South East Asian Countries and the region. The strategy of the program is to focus on performance improvement of the national water sector by development of professional and demand orientated capacity building programs, by considering both the institutional and human resources components in an integrated way. Structured capacity building or performance improvement programs were identified through a regional CBNA conducted in September - October 2007 and were focused on water resources management, water supply and sanitation services to the communities. The poor are the main victim of lack or poor of water supply and sanitation services. Improved water resources management will allow increased coverage of the water supply and sanitation services. It is one of the main challenges for effective poverty reduction and health improvement. At the same time, increased coverage of water supply directly contributes to the achievement of the MDG.
The proposed program is a workshop for Capacity Building Network Managers in the SEA Region. The workshop will consist of a series of presentations, individual activities and exercises, and group assignments and group discussions. The content of the workshop activities will be focused on aspects such as (1) Knowledge Management and Networking, (2) Sustainability aspects from academic, institutional and financial point of view, (3) Establishing network secretariats and administration activities, (4) Management aspects such as financial management, fund raising, budgeting network activities, (5) Planning activities, (6) preparation of proposals and budgets, (7) Network performance monitoring and evaluation, (8) Programming, planning, management, monitoring & evaluation of capacity building programs.
In addition, the network managers will be given individual assignments to make a strategic plan and short and medium term action plans for their own (national) networks. Results of the national Capacity Building Needs Assessment (CBNA) programs carried out in the SEA Region in 2007 will be used to develop national medium-term strategies and multi years capacity building programs for the networks to support performance improvement of the national water sector.
It is expected that the workshop will take 5 working days. A more detailed workshop programme is attached, included the related cost estimate. The program will be implementated in combination with a similar program for CKNet Indonesia. In this way saving in overhead cost can be achieved.
Participants will be invited from the following SEA countries: Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia (CKNet members).
