WaterNet and partners organize the first AfriAlliance conference in Ekurhuleni, South Africa

The first AfriAlliance Conference took place at the Birchwood Hotel, Ekurhuleni, South Africa. This was in parallel to the Local Climate Solutions for Africa 2017: Water and Climate Congress from 22-24 March 2017. WaterNet led the workpackage on enhancing knowledge sharing and technology transfer under which this inaugural conference was organized.

Selection for the Regional Masters Program in IWRM, 2017/18 Intake

The Selection Meeting for the Regional Master Program in IWRM 2017/18 intake was held at Birchwood Hotel in South Africa on the 8th of September 2016. All coordinators from different specialization institutions were present at the meeting. The requirements for admission included a good first degree class, relevant working experience and an approval letter from the one’s Ministry of Water.

The Akvo Really Simple Reporting (RSR) Training was held on the 9th of September 2016 at the Birchwood Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. Akvo RSR is an online communication, reporting and monitoring hub for all projects done by an organization. As from January 2017, WaterNet Trust and all its network members will be reporting using Akvo RSR.

Promoting the Application of Environmental Flows in the Management of Transboundary River Basins in Southern Africa, 25 – 28 July 2016, Manica, Mozambique

In order to promote environmental flows management, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) partnered in delivering a practical training course on environmental flows management in Manica Mozambique between 24 – 28 July 2016. The training targeted participants from the Pungwe Basin in general and Mozambique and Zimbabwe in particular. Participants were drawn from relevant water management organisations such as the Zimbabwe National Water Authority in Zimbabwe and ARA-Centro in Mozambique.

WaterNet in collaboration with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature will host the above named training on Promoting the application of environmental water requirements in the management of transboundary river basins in Southern Africa, 20 – 23 June, Cape Town, South Africa for the Resilience in the Limpopo Basin Programme (RESILIM). The major objective of the training is to provide policy makers with information and understanding of the principles that underlie good practice in the determination of Environmental Flows in transboundary water governance.

Regional Training in International Water Law (IWL) for Transboundary Improved Water Management in Management

WaterNet will participate in the joint training on International Water Law (IWL) in Africa to being speared by the Global Water Partnership. The training will take place in Kampala, Uganda, 5-12 June 2016. It will be attended by 40 participants of which 5 will be funded by WaterNet. The aim of the training is to improve transboundary water management in Africa. The other partners behind the training, apart from GWP, are the University of Dundee (UK), Makerere University (Uganda), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Network for Basin Organizations (ANBO).

Africa-EU Innovation Alliance for Water and Climate, “AfriAlliance” H2020, Project

WaterNet is part of a consortium of 16 organizations from Africa and Europe implementing the Africa-EU Innovation Alliance for Water and Climate, “AfriAlliance” Project, commonly referred to as the H2020 Project which is being funded by the European Commission. The major objective of the project is for: African and European stakeholders to work together in the areas of water innovation, research, policy, and capacity development in order to increase the preparedness of Africa for future Climate Change vulnerabilities.

Training Course on Development of E-learning Course Material

WaterNet held a 4 day Training Course on Developing Online/E-learning Courses Material at St George Hotel and Conference Centre, Pretoria, South Africa held from 26 – 29 April 2016. The main objective of the course was to effectively prepare WaterNet member institutions and partners to offer short professional courses through online and distance learning in order to further capacitate current and future water professionals in Eastern and Southern African countries and beyond in the management of freshwater resources.
